COMME DES GARÇONS, THE MET, NEW YORK

I enjoyed seeing this show at The Met New York. Rei Kawakubo's work focuses primarily on distortion of the body through amplification of form. She also collages with clothing parts in unusual ways. As a result her pieces are often very sculptural and theatrical. The exhibition also displayed videos of her costume work for dance. Seeing her manipulation of distorted form in movement was also interesting.

What I also loved, was mere galleries away, seeing some of the great cubist masterpieces by Picasso. I saw a striking similarity conceptually between those works and the exhibition. I would have loved to have seen it displayed together!
