When visiting the Tate, the temporary exhibition being held was of work by Huguette Caland. There was a series of drawings called Flirt Series, which depicted, what I saw as, moments of human physical contact between ambiguous body parts through very minimal linear drawing, coincidentally, similar in spirit to the sort of drawing I saw amongst many St. Ives artists (Caland is not a St. Ives artist).






She had translated drawings of this theme into dresses, which I found interesting, as the context of the art work changed to the human body itself. The moment of ‘human, physical contact’ depicted translated into dress in the placement where you would normally have the opening of a dress where ‘two parts of fabric’ come into contact.
