SPECTACULAR COSTUMES AT DORA STRATOU

I was mesmerised by these simply spectacular costumes. Performances take place 5 times a week from the start of June until the end of September (which a break in late July and August). There are 10 shows (covered in 2 weeks) that get repeated every fortnight. The shows cover costumes and corresponding dances from every region of Greece. The costumes are original antiques, maintained and preserved lovingly and astonishingly well. Dora Stratou has the largest Greek costume collection of its kind in the world. The theatre which is owned by the foundation, sits at the foot of Philopapous hill, by the ancient Philopapous monument. It is an intimate and tranquil venue in the heart of historic Athens. I thoroughly enjoyed the perormance I saw which included dances and costumes from Samothraki and Crete.
