Palaiochora in Aegina is a former Byzantine village with around 30 churches still standing today, many of the churches’ interiors are still decorated with their original Byzantine frescoes.
Palaiochora is a magical place because it is set on a scenic hillside overlooking the sea. It is beautiful any time of the year, however I visited it in late March, which was the first time I had ever visited the site in the spring. It was a completely different experience and truly mesmerising. The combination of the stunning ancient churches, the landscape, the view, together with the overgrown natural, wild gardens was simply spectacular.
