I have the honour of knowing a very gifted glyptographer – Maria Ghisi. I have known Maria since I was a teenager in London, in the 90s when my mother ran Gallery K in Hampstead and Maria was one of the artists represented by the gallery. Maria’s main technique is sculpting by carving, on a small scale, using varying materials but primarily gems.
Below is an example of her work found online: www.instagram.com/maria.ghisi

I’ve never been a fan of plain, gold wedding bands and so wanted something different for my husband and I. I loved the idea of a wedding band that was a sculpture, hence I commissioned Maria to design our wedding bands. The technique she employed was to sculpt the rings by carving wax to then be cast into gold. We wanted nature inspired themes. I loved her above Iris & dragonfly inspired chopsticks and asked her to base my ring on the Iris theme. The Iris being a symbol of faith, wisdom and hope. My husband also asked for a floral theme but to have a ladybird included in his design, which symbolises good luck, prosperity and protection.
